Trap Bar Deadlift

BackLegs

Step inside the hexagonal bar and grip the handles at your sides rather than in front of your shins. That handle position lets your torso stay more upright than a straight-bar deadlift allows, shifting more of the work onto your quads alongside your back and hips. Push through the floor to stand, keeping the bar's handles close to your body the whole way up. Hinge back at your hips and bend your knees to lower the bar, keeping your chest up and your weight balanced through the middle of your foot rather than your toes. The more upright torso this bar allows makes it a common alternative when a straight bar's forward lean is hard on someone's lower back.
