Single-Arm Dumbbell Overhead Press

ShouldersChest

Press one dumbbell overhead from shoulder height while your other arm stays relaxed at your side or braced on your hip. Lock the arm out directly above your ear, not out in front, then lower with the same control. Because the load is only on one side, your torso wants to lean or tip away from the working arm -- resist that by keeping your ribs stacked over your hips and bracing your core hard through the entire press, rather than letting the obliques on the loaded side do the stabilizing for you. Standing rather than seated makes the anti-lean demand on your core even greater, since your hips and legs have to help hold you upright too.
