Warrior I

Legs

When you get this right, you feel stable and strong from the ground up. Step one foot forward into a lunge, back heel lifted. Square your hips as much as you can toward the front of the mat. Your front knee stacks over your ankle, back leg is straight and strong behind you. Reach your arms overhead, shoulders relaxed away from your ears, palms facing each other or forward. The pose should feel grounded through your front leg and lengthened through your back body. If squaring your hips feels impossible, turn them slightly more open and still call it Warrior I—your body's built differently than the textbooks.
