Upward-Facing Dog

Back

Lying face down, plant your hands beside your ribs and press up until your arms are straight, lifting your thighs and hips off the floor so only your hands and the tops of your feet touch down. Unlike the forward fold of its counterpart, this one opens your chest and spine into a backbend, drive your chest forward and up, shoulders pulled back and down away from your ears. Keep your legs active and your kneecaps lifted so the arch comes from your upper back rather than collapsing into your lower spine. Look forward or slightly up, not straight overhead, to keep length through the back of your neck.
